Mencap Logo

Mencap are the UK’s leading learning disability charity. They work with people with a learning disability, their families and carers. Mencap actively campaign for equal rights and chances for people with a learning disability and fight to change laws and challenge prejudice that unfortunately still exists today.

Mencap in the Midlands, based in Birmingham, provide community-tailored services from leisure groups for children and adults, to advocacy groups which enable people with a learning disability to speak up for themselves and talk about issues that matter to them. These special services offer people with a learning disability the opportunity to live independent and fulfilled lives and to live their lives the way they would like to.

Wolverhampton Mencap, established 40 years ago, provides crucial care and support to the people of Wolverhampton with learning disabilities, their carers and families.

Mencap continually strive to raise the profile of learning disabilities, this encourages inclusion and offers greater opportunity which would otherwise not be available.

Children’s Outpatients Department

Charity Reference No. 1059467

Children’s Outpatients Department
New Cross Hospital
Wolverhampton

We are not only an Outpatient Clinical Appointment Department we also work very closely with the children of Wolverhampton and surrounding areas who have long term conditions and life threatening illnesses.

We try to provide help and support to the children and their families in many ways i.e. providing equipment, days and nights out and weekends away. We also aim to help the children come to terms with their illnesses through moral support and education. We try not to forget the parents/carers as we have support groups where they can meet up, discuss their problems and also have a bit of "relaxation therapy".

Brain Tumour UK

Logo of Brain Tumour UK Charity

Brain Tumour UK aims to provide quality support, resources and services for anyone affected by brain tumours and to raise awareness of the need for, and funding for, more research and better care and treatments. This will be in collaboration with medical professionals, organisations and others sharing our aims and beliefs.

Our self-help group for brain tumour patients, relatives and carers was created as we identified that in Shropshire people are diagnosed with brain tumours locally in Shrewsbury and Telford but sent 40-50 miles away for clinical/surgical treatment. When patients return home they are often left with no contact at all with clinicians or doctors and very little information on what the next course of action is. They need like minded people to communicate and socialise with to enhance their quality of life.

Our group aims to provide this through a meeting place, a telephone helpline, and offering information not available elsewhere. In addition we are campaigning and encouraging more involvement from the only two Specialist Centres in the region Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Stoke Hospital, and are raising funds for a new research centre in Wolverhampton University under the guidance of Prof John Darling with whom we have a close and ongoing relationship.
